“I have experienced many workshops and retreats but none have touched me so deeply and joyfully.” A. Hannah.

Patmos, the holy island of the Aegean. is one of the most important sites in Christianity. The island’s name has become synonymous with St John, the Apostle of Love, who, while in exile there, received the Revelations, the last book of the Bible. For nearly two thousand years it has attracted pilgrims who have come to pay homage and absorb the special energy of this beautiful island.

Since my first visit to Patmos twenty three years ago it has been a dream of mine to lead a retreat there. Then, as on subsequent visits, its atmosphere and holy associations have never failed to provide healing and a rich food for the soul.

Skala, the main port of Patmos, from Chora.

But apart from its spiritual significance, Patmos is also an island of golden beaches and unforgettable sunsets, deserted pebble coves and warm hospitality.

Our retreat will enable you to combine all the elements that Patmos can offer.

“Perfect love casts out fear” – 1 John Ch 4

A retreat is a time to step out of the busy-ness of daily life and into the sanctuary of our hearts.  This is a time to find our own inner steps to inner peace and quiet.

The first step is to hear the call of the inner voice which invites us to step for a while out of the busy-ness of our daily life and to say “yes” to ourselves. It is to slow down, quieten our hectic minds and find space for our hearts. In the simplicity of the retreat experience, we discover once again our spiritual nature and openness. Connected to our true nature, feelings of connectedness to everything and everyone else follow naturally

The retreat atmosphere invites us to be fully in the present with a soft heart. We begin to understand the true meaning of Presence.  Sacred space, silence, prayer, meditation, nature, all support us to feel the harmony which is the fruit of the retreat experience.

In a retreat experience, people of all religions and no religion,  can sit together in the “religion” of the heart, the beauty of simple peace. Each person is welcome to bring their own awareness, meditation practice or prayer practice.

“I will make all things new” – Rev 21:5

A tiny chapel on the site of where St John allegedly baptised people.

Our morning programme will begin with a heart-based meditation which provides contemplation for the day and when practiced during the retreat stay, lessens mental activity while bringing us closer to our inner peace and love. Each day we practice gentleness to ourselves and others, softening our awareness and honoring our humanness.

After the morning meditation and breakfast we will visit one of the sacred sites on the island such as the Cave of the Apocalypse where St John received the Revelations, the impressive Monastery of St John and a couple of other sites associated with the Apostle of Love, such as where he preached and where he baptized people. We are honoured to have Haniel Sofia Rivière as our guide for two mornings.  Haniel Sofia is wisely regarded as the best guide on the island and combines a profound knowledge of Patmos, its spiritual and cultural history, with her own practise as a spiritual guide and workshop facilitator.

Or we might make a mindfulness walk to one to of the quiet bays close to where we will stay or to watch a sunset from the site of where once stood a temple to Artemis.

We will eat lunch either at Blu Patmos Village or at a local beach taverna. On Silent days, however, when we will stay in or close to our resort, we will be served a buffet lunch by the owners.

A favourite beach front taverna for lunch.

On non-silent days, you are free to do what you like in the afternoon. You may want to hire a car or a scooter for the week and to go off and explore the island.

I will be available every afternoon for individual White Bull or healing sessions and for any other kind of support that you might need.

In the late afternoon we will gather at our resort to be together again as a group, to reflect, to share, to listen to White Bull, to watch the sunset, before going out to dinner.

For the duration of our retreat we will stay at the delightful Patmos Blu Village. The resort is situated in a quiet bay from where magnificent sunsets can be seen. It is a short distance from Skala, the main town on the island which has a wide variety of restaurants.

The airports of Samos, Kos and Rhodes are served by flights from many destinations. Daily ferry services run from each of these places to Patmos, but as most ferries leave early in the morning you will probably need to spend a night on the way. Some days early flights from Amsterdam to Samos connect with a ferry to Patmos. Some flights to Thessaloniki also connect with flights to and from Samos and Kos.

There is also a Blue Star ferry from Piraeus ( Athens ) which arrives in the early hours of the morning.

I will let you know about ferry schedules. They are also listed on the website of Astoria Travel – Wherever you are arriving from and whatever the time of day or night, you will be met at the harbour in Patmos.

If flight schedules mean that you will arrive a day or even three before the beginning of the Retreat, accommodation can be reserved for you at Blu Patmos Village or at a nearby hotel.
